Do you know what is the work of Krishi Vigyan Kendra?

Krishi Vigyan Kendras are such organizations that work from conducting training programs for farmers to testing new technology seeds and planting material on farmers' fields under various agricultural production systems, etc.

According to the information given by the Union Agriculture Minister on March 19, 2017, the total number of Krishi Vigyan Kendras in the country has gone up to 668. Every farmer should be aware of these institutions working for the farmers up to the district level, so that he can benefit from it.

The central government aims to set up at least one Krishi Vigyan Kendra in all the districts of the country. Till 2017, the number of Krishi Vigyan Kendras in the country was 637 which has increased to 668. Apart from this, the number of Attari has been increased from 8 to 11 (New Attari- Pune, Patna, Guwahati) for effective monitoring and management at Krishi Vigyan Kendras. All KVKs fall under the jurisdiction of one of the 11 Agricultural Technology Application Research Institutes (ATARIs) throughout India. As of May 2021, there are approximately 722 KVKs throughout India.

Objectives and Activities of Krishi Vigyan Kendra

To test new technology seeds and planting material on farmers' fields for location specific under different agricultural production systems.

Organizing agar row demonstrations on farmers' fields to prove their production capacity on various crops, animal husbandry and other agro-based industries and wide spread work through district agricultural extension workers.

To organize training programs to enhance the knowledge and skills of farmers in modern agricultural technology.

To impart training to district wise agricultural extension workers to enhance their knowledge in the latest areas of industrial development.

Production of improved seeds at KVK farm and on farmers' fields through “Seed Hub” and “Seed Village Programme”.

Organizing various extension activities like Kisan Mela, Agriculture Exhibition, Technology Week, Meetings, Group Discussions, Seminars, Harvest Days, Radio-TV discussions etc. on a large scale to accelerate the process of dissemination of technology.

Krishi Vigyan Kendra Portal

Krishi Vigyan Portal has been started on 8th July 2016 for monitoring management at high level by online review of Krishi Vigyan Kendras and providing information and advice to farmers. Farmers can get complete information about KVKs located in their district from this portal.

Key Features of Krishi Vigyan Kendra Portal :-
A provision has been made for online monitoring of Krishi Vigyan Kendras through the portal, which includes taking details of the work done by Krishi Vigyan Kendras regularly and receiving progress reports on a monthly basis.

Through this portal, information about various services available from time to time at Krishi Vigyan Kendras can be obtained.

Farmers can also get weather and market information through this portal.

Details of upcoming programs are also available on those website so that farmers and rural youth who are getting training will be able to take advantage of the programmes.

Arrangements have also been made to ask questions and get answers. So that farmers will be able to get answers to their queries.

Information about the concerned district is also available on the portal regarding agriculture and agriculture related subjects.

Farmers and officers can register themselves and get a lot of information.
